Grounding Backbone

I need to run a grounding backbone between three closets back to a TMGB. I will be running #6 in the closets back to the TGB's. I have two questions:

1) Is it acceptable to install a #6 as the backbone?

2) The ceiling is a plenum environment so it is clear that I cannot run a sheathed cable in the ceiling. However can I run a bare copper cable? Or so I have to run a sheathed cable inside of a conduit?

I am always surprised when I type in initials on the key word box, and the search engine finds the meaning. It sure helps me, I hate initials,abbreviations,and acronyms. :p :p

Bare copper would be fine unless you are concerned about it contacting its supports or other metallic items in the ceiling that may introduce noise. Then go with EMT and an insulated THHN. Some will say that you will have to "choke" the ground wire at each end of the conduit but then you are back to the same problem as running an uninsulated wire without conduit.

#6 should also be fine but I know Derrick won't agree with me when I say I like to go a little larger, usually #2 unless there is some reason to go larger than that.
