when is a ground lead to a metal box required when using MC BX cable.
thanks

MC and AC (what used to be known as BX) are two different cable assemblies, MC has an insulated EGC, AC does not, it's sheath is recognized as an EGC per 250.118.

ground

In the past the mechanical ground of bx cable was an acceptable ground to box, and through the screws, the device.
now that mc cable is required in commercial buildings, when installiong a receptacle in a mteal box is it required to tail to the metal box and the device?

MC cable has a EGC that is required to be bonded to the box. A bonding jumper is not required for a self grounding receptacle.

AC does not, it's sheath is recognized as an EGC per 250.118.

Some AC cable does have ECG in addtion to the sheath hospital grade and there is a new AP MC which has an full sized AL conductor in contact with the sheath recognizing the sheath as an EGC

Bea, you would be talking about HCFC which was not mentioned in this thread.

As far as the "New" MC, I have not talked to anyone that has used it yet, have you?

It is be promoted at trade shows though.
