Hi,
I am installing a supplemental copper rod at existing 1200A, 3-ph. service that has only grounding system electrode/conductor to the main water pipe. now, Can I connect the GEC from the new grounding ro to the same main water pipe where other one is already connected;
or I have to run it all the way to grounding/neutral bus of the existing service??????

Thank you

If you connect between the existing connection and where the pipe enters the earth, you will be connecting to the existing electrode, which is allowed.

All electrodes are permitted to be joined together to form the GES or grounding electrode system with bonding jumpers.

In most cases the connection would have to be to the water pipe within 5' of where the water pipe enters the building.
