Grounding RV Pedestals

We installed new pedestals at a state park here with campsites. The county inspector is requesting that a ground rod be driven 6' away from each pedestal and connected to the respective pedestal. It is my opinion that this is not required. The park is concerned about the expense and the extra rods being a trip hazard.

I have seldom seen it required.
Technically if one looks at the NEC definition of a "structure" you might consider this as falling under 250.32
Hopefully you did install an equipment grounding conductor with your feeder.

The pedestals would be considered separate structures and 250.32(A) would require a grounding electrode.

Drive the ground rods below grade and there should not be a tripping hazard.

Also keep in mind that unless you meet the 25 ohm rule of 250.56 you would be required to install 2 ground rods 6 feet apart at each pedestal.

Not a service, but an outside feeder to a separate structure in accordance with Part II of Article 225, and 250.32.

Randall, Is the feeder direct burial or Metal Conduit through a concrete base?
