Habitable Room or Area

The term "habitable" is used in the NEC, but not defined there. It is my opinion that the scope statement of Article 100 directs us to the other codes for definitions of terms like this.

Scope. This article contains only those definitions essential
to the proper application of this Code. It is not intended to
include commonly defined general terms or commonly defined
technical terms from related codes and standards. In
general, only those terms that are used in two or more
articles are defined in Article 100. Other definitions are
included in the article in which they are used but may be
referenced in Article 100.

How does the red text direct us to other codes??

How do we know if a word not defined by NEC is supposed to be a commonly defined general term or a term from another code?

If "habitable room" is not NEC defined then the default definition would be from a standard dictionary.

In my opinion that term is not a standard dictionary term, it is a technical term from another code or standard and we go to that other code or standard for the definition.

from Merriam-Webster

"habitable - capable of being lived in"

i dont know of any one room in a house that is "habitable". my house is habitable. you cant really live in the kitchen, cant really live in a bedroom either.

to me, habitable house compromises of all the rooms required to make the house "habitable". 1 room with bed/kitchen/bathroom can be a house too.

Is there any FPN's or Informational notes that direct us to which other standard uses the term? They are good at directing us to other standards via those notes but I can't recall any for application of this term.
