When making a new opening like the one with the picture and the bare bonding? conductor , I try to cut to the center of the stud, not to the edge of it. Roto zips are good for this. That way when the drywaller patches he has a margin to attach screws for his patch piece. The Irony of all this is that drywallers in general don't give a cr_ _ about any of my work, making it any easier for me, or if they destroy it using the same tool.:mad:
 
What always amazed me, was how a mason has to put his own work in straight and perfectly level, but if you are not standing there holding the pipe for your mason box as he puts it in, there is no guaranty it will be level or flush.
