My guess is that is the maximum hole size it is rated for, it may still drill larger hole but overheating starts to become an issue.

My Hilti is 35 miles from here right now or I'd measure for you. The chuck is SDS, and the size designator is TE-C. I believe TE-C bit are available in sizes from .125" to 1". The bit shanks are about .5" or slightly larger.
The advantage of SDS chucks/bits is that the chuck does not absorb the hammer action. The chuck transfers the rotory action, and the hammer action is applied directly to the motor end of the bit. So the wear and tear is on the bit, not the chuck. (The bit can slide a bit inside the chuck while rotation is constant.)
There are, IMO, only two types of hammer-drills - Hilti, and everyone else.

SDS/SDS Plus/TE-C will accommodate 1 1/8" bits; after that, you need SDS Max/TE-Y shanks. TE-22 is the smaller size. The size listed is the size hole it will drill.
dunno about the drills but the x-head bits are miles better than Bosch or other standard 2 flute bits; much faster drilling, less vibration, better life.

I have a Bosch 328VC. Great drill. Its a 1 1/8. 1 1/8 fits 3/4 EMT. It drills a 1 1/8 hole fairly well, but If I was doing a zillion holes, I would get a bigger SDS Max unit. 1 1/8 is the biggest SDS plus bit you can find as far as I know.

Ours are all Milwaukee's with spline shafts.
Its hard to make the conversion to SDS / SDS Max when you have so many bits for the spline tools.
The biggest drill bit we use is 1 3/8"

You have spline shaft drill and maybe only use a 1-3/8 max solid bit, but that drill can probably handle at least 3 inch core bits.
