Just last week was teaching the 13 YO grandson how to change duplex receptacles hot.

removal sequence: ground , white, black

install: black, white, ground

less chance of damaging your screwdriver with that sequence learned via 60 years or replacing outlets

Except, the ground should always be first to make, last to break. Why light bulbs are designed the way they are, and ground pins are always longer than the blades

I love when people justify things by saying they have done it this way their whole life.....it is hard to accept that we have been doing it wrong our whole life, but come on guys. Have a little respect for yourself and allow yourself to learn something.

Remove ground first - you are holding the device by the yoke, should you contact the ungrounded conductor you definitely get nailed if hanging onto the grounded yoke, if the yoke is disconnected and you touch the ungrounded conductor you only get nailed if you are grounded somewhere else.

These posts remind me of a salty old guy who told me that if I was scared of working hot, then I shouldn't be working as an electrician. That made an impression on me. I think
not being scared is a sign of some degree of stupidity.
