Have you ever heard of "spin tight"
A guy I'm working with just got a job at the nuclear power plant, and one of the questions he was asked was about "spin tight" which he got wrong. We looked in the "American Electrical handbook" and the NEC and couldn't find it. Anyone know?

Re: Have you ever heard of......?

It's the control mechanism that lowers the beryllium shell onto the plutonium globe. :p

Tell him to be careful with that, or he may end up suffering the same fate as the ill-fated Louis Slotin.

Re: Have you ever heard of......?

Indeed it is another name for a nut driver.

Don't ask me where it came from, probably a brand name for a line of nut drivers from way back. Betcha if you look in an Xcellite catalog from the 50's that's what they called them.

I always called them spin-tights since I was a kid in school then later doing electronics work with no problem. I stopped when newer kids didn't know what I was talking about.

Have you noticed the standard color-code for Spintite nut drivers ?

Black-3/16, Red-1/4, Brown-7/16, Orange-9/16, etc.,etc.

Re: Have you ever heard of......?

I have always known spin-tight as a type of hazardous location control enclosures (i.e. NEMA 7). These have threaded top and bottom end caps, rather than bolted covers.
