As most of us know, February 2009 means we all need to have converter boxes on our old, analog TVs in order to convert the digital signals that are in the works.

I've seen a lot of advertising on the tube lately about how to get a coupon for something like $40 off one of those converters.

Well, I ran across one of those converters today at an office I was working on. In their break room is a wall-mounted TV & VCR.

Upon closer inspection, I found one of these magical little gadgets.

I have a BIG antenna on my house for HDTV, and a satellite dish, it's not the prettiest sight, but I don't care while I'm watching HDTV...

What baffles me is the connector on the back of the set labeled VTR. What is that, SCART?

Nope, it is VTR Video Tape Recorder, it used to be used to connect old Montior TVs to old Reel to reel video tape recorders.

It had both sound and video.

Looks like its from a waiting room of a car repair shop... I saw a TV and VCR just like that at a Toyota dealership.

No, it's a computer & logistics center for, shall we, say, an international shipping company who shall remain nameless here.

Having that embarrassment in view for the public to see should remove the need to keep them nameless.

Much experience in those? ;)

Yes, a bit.

I owned a 3/4" reel to reel VTR, of course it was black and white, it was a cast off from a school and it had to weigh 75 lbs.

Thats gone now but I still own an 8 Track Cartridge recorder.

This is a similar unit
