Yep, I 'member those.

Really high-tech stuff....

At the time it was cool.

you could actually record your own 8-tracks!

Yeah, everyone had players but few had recorders.

I also had a sweet 1/4" reel to reel unit that had 'Auto Reverse' so you did not have to flip the spools over.

. . . I still own an 8 Track Cartridge recorder.
That's funny, as I own one, also, as well as a Super-Beta vcr, a linear-tracking turntable, and a reel-to-reel audio deck.

Who you callin' dinosaur?! ;)

Here some info about the VTR jack

8PinSocket.gif

8 Pin EIAJ jack viewed straight in.
EIAJ 8 Pin jacks are found on old VTR decks and receiver/monitors. 8 pin to 8 pin cables allowed convenient connection for off the air recording since old VTR's don't usually have built in tuners and required being connected to a separate TV receiver / monitor.

"I've seen a lot of advertising on the tube lately about how to get a coupon for something like $40 off one of those converters"

Yea, I ordered two last week, here: https://dtv2009.gov
My nice LCD monitor has an analog TV tuner, and I want to keep Mr Monitor for a while. (I like to track Jeopardy while posting :) )

It seems that our USA government is suffering a conscience pang, and is offering this $40 x 2 Coupon Deal. Did you even know that our government had a conscience? Me too . . .

Since the USA is suffering from a bandwidth shortage, our government started this whole digital thing to relieve some of the shortfall. They are giving away some of the newly gained bandwidth, and $elling the balance.

The government estimate of the retail cost of an A-D box is $50-70 USD. My local big box, Circuit City, has 'em, starting at $129 USD ! Oh well . . .

Best Wishes Everyone in 2008

And you pick up transmissions in your fillings and can pop Jiffy-Pop by holding it up to the window...

Actually, TV tower sites don't usually have a great amount of RF at ground level...our antenna is 2000' in the air and the antenna directs the energy toward the horizon.

If you want to go where the fences talk and the fluorescent lights glow even with the switch off, visit a big AM site, like this one:

I was in this building last in 1993...I remember a cage in the basement with 2400V switchgear...cool stuff, wish I had taken pictures, but I was interviewing for a job...

The entire paperclip assembly should be insulated using +33 to reduce the possibility of interference and signal distortion and wire nuts should only be put in place to enhance the signal. Of course each wire nut that is installed should also be wrapped with +33. Always be sure to tape your nuts for a good secure connection. Happy Taping.
