Is type HCFAC cable suitable for critical and emergency branch circuits in patient areas vs. metalic conduit and an insulated ground wire per 2005 517.13(A) & (B)?
This seems to be a change from 2002 as noted in the 05 handbook.
Is this the only code reference to these circuits?

If true then conduit is not required and HCFAC can be run for all circuits in patient areas.

See 517.30 (C) (3)(3) for the few instances where it can be used for the Emergency System.

So in a "patient care area" the HCFAC use is limited by 517.30(C)(3)(3).

Is the lab, admitting office, or nurses station considered "patient care areas"?

TKB, 517.10 is the section you need.

517.10 Applicability

(A) Applicability Part II shall apply to patient care areas of all health care facilities.

(B) Not Covered Part II shall not apply to the following:

(1) Business offices, corridors, waiting rooms, and the like in clinics, medical and dental offices, and outpatient facilities
