Welcome to the forum!!!
You'll need to research this against each State Building Code(s).
Most State's will have a State Building Code where the medical side will be within their code's which the NEC-72 will
be inside their code(s).
A State might have their own requirements that can stand alone but calls out refernces to the NFPA with their own requirements and are usually much greater.
Frankly, the name of the dept's seems to usually be long and winded!
I can understand the confusion.
Now most times the NEC is the minimum, the state medical electrical requirements within these codes will be much, much more. (I see already said that)
A fine example of this might be the potential requirement for lead shielded walls, due to the nature of this area,
again maybe, maybe not; thus requiring greater requirements for any electrical in that area. Be sure to read
up on other things like penetrations into this room. Working space requirements verses other services,
etc, etc, frankly the list can go one and on!
Hope that helps, Good Luck with your design!
