Beany and Cecil - Wikipedia

In over my head. Handful of large 3phase inspections to date, engineered/stamped drawings exclusively. Fairly adept now w/my Electricalc pro®, not a calculation issue at this juncture. Just got off the phone with their operations mgr. and local utility engineer.

According to the both of 'em, 500kv pad mount. "1200a rated disconnect" per operations mgr. Cited long lead times, wanted to know if it mattered fused/non-fused, inside bldg. Guaranteed to be CT's and associated paraphernalia...

Told him i was NOT an EE, cited 230.91, which reads in part, the fusing "shall be located immediately adjacent thereto"...

Not technically my pervue after first disco.

Comparatively Huge Co., multiple locations.

Told the op.Mgr. AGAIN to get stamped plans/'Qualified' contractor, long story. Recommended fused based on cited Code reference.

Non-fused OK and call it a Day? Let the OP. Mgr. 'worry' about everything downstream?

Any thoughts, opinions, code references, etc., Your time permitting, would be appreciated.

Thank you, willy

"I'm comin', Beany!"

There's gotta be over-current protection somewhere in the secondary feeder.

I'm not sure whether inside is permissible, but I'm thinking it needs to be fusible.

"Officer! Officer! Arrest that man!"

"Why?"

"What he does to me in next week's show is a crime!"

Unless manufacturer or engineer has a workable solution, the AIC rating of a NF switch would likely be a problem.

General update:

Thank You for the info gentlemen. Upon further discussion w/Power Co, That Kva class (500) has 'self-contained' metering.

No time to go through records, guessing 600A and under utilizes external CT's at the point of bldg. entrance, 800A and above, part of transformer assembly. From memory. Suspect though it may be.

Last minute 'involvement' on my part as of Yesterday morning, 'Last minute' pow-wow tomorrow a.m. Should be interesting.

Thanks Again.
