Help identifying mystery wiring in old bathroom

Check it for voltage. If there is none, hook up a tone set (fox and hound) and try to find the other end of it. Where the other end is, or isn't, should give you a huge clue.

That would be the best bet if you are curious (I probably would just because I'm like that). Too many possibilities otherwise.

It could have been for some sort of thermostat overide switch or timer. Let you warm up the house while you bathe without traipsing through the whole house.

Any signs of an old coal furnace in there?...may have been 24v. control for the damper/stoker.
