I have a 200HP soft start running an existing pump, which runs about 2 days a week. I want to connect a 125HP motor to the same soft start, to be run when the pump is not running--generally a day or two during the week. If I install a fused disconnect for the new 125HP motor at the soft start controller and install an additional start-stop station at the new motor as well as interlocks in the disconnect to prevent the 200HP start circuit from operating and a selector switch to select the run relay for the separate motors. Is this permissible? I know 430.87 states that each motor shall have an individual controller. My question is by isolating and interlocking with safeties, can this one controller be considered an individual controller for these two motors, which will never be ran at the same time?
