Why did I get 5 to 10 volts from faucet to ungrounded metal box?
I would think that the faucet was the ground in this situation and the other lead was picking up a little stray (induced) voltage at the receptacle (metal box). A digital meter will pick up almost anything. Now if that metal box were grounded you shouldn't get anything.
I would check from the hot side of the receptacle to the faucet to see if I could read 120V and this would let me know if the faucet is grounded. If there is water in the line there is a ground path.
Or you could just turn the circuit for this receptacle off and see if you still read anything.
