I need a little assistance with installing recessed lights. Not how to wire them, just need to know how many and placement. A H.O. wants lights in a 12'x19' room and is leaving it up to me for the # of lights and placement, also size (ie:4" or 6").
I don't know the light/lumen spread of either and thought some of you guys that had installed lots of these could shed some light (pun intended) on this for me. Also would be good to know of brand of lights - looks, performance, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: the area above the room is accessible from the attic

Brand of lights, I've used Halo or Juno both 4" & 6". Juno seems to have

a bigger selection of trims from basic donut trim to Clear Alzak trims. Halo

comes with Wago wall nuts for connection. The Juno cut in can after the hole

is cut just require finger pressure to engage the spring clips.

Bill, It really depends on what you want to do with the lighting. If there is a fan in the middle then you may change what I will propose-- or put an eyeball trim and direct it off the fan to avoid strobe.

I would come in 42" on both sides of the 12' dimension and 48" on both sides for the 19' dimension. I would then add one in the middle of the 19' dimension- so add one at 9 1/2'. This is a total of 6 cans-- I still like the 6" cans Halo H7ICT with a 65R30 bulb.

Thanks John!

Thanks Dennis, How would you change the set-up if there is a fan in the middle that also has a light kit?

You can add a regressed eyeball trim to direct the lights away from the blades. More commonly, I have also added another 2 cans on the 19' dimension so that none where in the middle near the fan.
