I saw a study one time that incompetent people did not know that they were incompetent and actually thought highly of themselves, While competent tended to have doubts.

I think that's probably true. But, when it comes to taking a test the people that have done their home work and put in the hours of study to actually know the material normally feel more comfortable and at ease than those hoping to get lucky.

When electricalperson said he spent 5 hours a night for a month that's actually 150 hours of study time. That's probably more time than I spent in a six month period. I think that's why he was so confident and fast.

Most people are not going to buckle down like that and really study so I alway suggest that they start a few months in advance ( if possible ). I have had enough friends that failed the test by trying to cram everything in the week end before the test ( really hard to do, to much material ).

I agree with you. I myself am a lousy studier. You really have to know how to do it to be effective. If were to just read the NEC from cover to cover (unless you are one of a very rare few) once you get to the test your brain then has to try to sort out all of that information.

I was just saying that most of us are way better prepared for most of these test and know way more than we give ouselfs credit for.

Once a year we have to take a "First Responder" course, and every year I dread it (chemical signage, reactivity, areas of refuge, etc.), nothing to study, eight hour course, test at the end and yet I am the only one in the department that has passed the test on the first try every time.
