In my opinion this issue should squarely rest with the AFCI manufacturer and if they cannot make an AFCI that will not trip, they they should be responsible to provide the home owner with a vacuum that won't trip their oversensitive device. Note this assumes that the vacuum meets the required standards and does not have any ground faults. Maybe the home owner should look for a product liability attorney that will take a look at a class action lawsuit. It looks like SquareD's statement would be a good start in the required evidence for this case.

Talked to a SquareD rep a few weeks a go at the supply house. They assured me that thier AFCI never nuciance trip!!:-? Even suggested that if there was a nuciance trip it was probably the electricians fault. Also rattled off some nonsence about Wi. electrical code. Seemed more of a shill than anyone with real knowlege about the product. Probably spewing the company line.

You really think he'd say anything that would harm the company in anyway ?

I believe an isolation transformer 1:1 would solve the problem. Since the AFI cant detect past a transformer.

I know, Not a solution, but it would work!
