I have herd that a mechanical latching relay is better for HID lighting circuits than a regular general purpose contactor.
I am looking for an economical latching 2 pole and or 3 pole contactor for use on a 20A HID lighting circuit.

If it's a non-critical application, you can get away with a definite purpose contactor. You don't have high inrush currents with hid lighting. For a 20 amp circuit I would recommend a 30 amp rating on the contactor.

A definite purpose contactor is the most economical way to go. You can expect to pay alot more for mechanicaly held lighting contactor. Another consideration is switching, are you planning on 2 or 3 wire control?
