Just as an FYI, I've been working with flush trim solutions for surface mounting on outlet boxes for a while and love to see installations like this. This kind of work often pushes into gray areas of compliance and so at the end of the day it is the AHJ's decision as to acceptability. On high end jobs there is usually time to review the plans and specs with the AHJ/inspector prior to installation and work out any issues in advance just to avoid surprising them later on.
