Hipot testing

Hello,

I’m pretty new to hipot testing and I’m hoping someone might be able to answer some questions I have about proper connections to a vacuum breaker. We have an AC hipot 50kv test set.

If Im testing a 15.5kv outdoor vacuum circuit breaker, it’s open, and isolated. the frame to the breaker is grounded to the grounding grid.

  1. We bond the line side together and connect hipot HV lead.
  2. we bond the load side and connect the hipot return lead
  3. we connect the hipot test ground lead to the breaker ground.
  4. The hipot return mode is set to Ground Mode.
Will this test all vacuum bottles, surface contamination, basically all current leakage?

If I was to add a visual ground jumper from the load side that the return lead is attached to and connect the other end of the jumper to the breaker ground where the hipot ground lead is will this bypass the meter in the hipot and skew measurements? This parallel connection wouldn’t be additive And still be caught by the meter?

thanks for any information
