HM breakers

I recently installed four new dedicated 20 amp circuits about 60' each for some commercial microwaves. The owner says that about once a week one of the micros trip its breaker. All four have done it. After verifying all are dedicated, good voltage no swapped or even shared neuts I called the manufacturer. The only tech I could get said they were having a problem with that. He said he would send me some QOB120 breakers that seem to work. I explained that I have a QO panel and the others are in a CH panel. He couldn't give me an answer. He said it was when they start the micro at the bottom of the sine wave it causes a higher inrush that trips the breaker. Does anyone know if it might do the trick to install HM breakers. I have spent hours there checking amps, turning them on and off and could never get one to trip. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, why not give it a shot, and make the manufacturer pay you for the breaker and your time, and for you to tell them if it works or not. As it sounds like you are now part of the R&D team.

You might also try a QO-HID breaker....;)

I have had good luck with HM in nuisance tripping situations because of LV lighting transformers. Given the time you have already spent there, HM breakers would be a cheap fix, if they do work.

Good luck,
Mike

I have seen this issue before and, while this is in no way intended to be a putdown to the company, I would be willing to bet the micro's are GE brand. They seem to be the only ones I have seen this issue come up with. My experience is the HM breaker solves the problem.

Thanks for the input. I will try the hm breakers. Seems like the manufacturer would have researched more if it had been an issue.
