I know it's not electrical related, but we had so much fun with the real name and the picture threads.

What are your plans for the holidays? Visit family? Have family visit? Relax and take some down time?

This year we really cut back, no hugh holiday dinner, just our daughter and her kids, my dad and his wife, and my MIL that lives with us. Then taking the week between Christmas and New Years off to work on some projects around the house that I've been putting off.

I had The Family Christmas at Thanksgiving when I took my vacation then.

I plan on taking a 4-day weekend. Nothing scheduled, but will do service calls if they come in.

I always do two things in the week between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1...... burn onto a CD and then delete all the old files on my hard drive (stuff from 2007, mostly) and start getting organized for income tax time.

Yea, I know.... bah humbug.....not very Christmasy, but it's why I do.

At any rate:

Going to see my Dad. Had a scare with him not too long ago. A couple of stints took care of it, but made me realize he isn't immortal. And the way time seems to be flying these days!

family, its all about family.

and gambling. yeah, family and gambling.

oh yeah, eating. family and gambling and eating.

oops, forgot egg nog. family, gambling, eating, and egg nog. yeah, that's the ticket.

My holiday plans got a sudden change in the last two days, I had plans of doing some traveling over the next two weeks.
A couple of friends of mine are now facing problems. One got his layoff notice yesterday the copmpany no longer exists, the other has/had a boss that can't make the payroll. Both have small children and not much in the line of savings (seems to be a common thing here anymore).
The money I would of spent on myself is about to go to a far better place and make some kids very happy.

I've just got to say, that is one of the most unselfish things I have ever heard. I hope that you are paid back 10 fold for your generosity. I know time is short, but please let me know if I can help out.

There's a place in heaven for people like you.

Merry Christmas:grin:

I must admit I hate Christmas. Don't exactly know why, but I think it's about money and time spent on festivities. Lots of work.
Your post has given me a boost. I know exactly what to now. Help someone less fortunate. Thanks for your post. It made me do a little thinking......John

My belief is you always get back what you give. In this case the feeling is worth much more then what I gave up.
My children are grown and have there own families so they can all get together without me this year and we will have twice as much fun when I make it back next year.

The commercial nature of Christmas has been a bummer to me since I was 12 years old (34 years ago). Now with my own family I cherish the family meal together even though we all live within 25 miles of each other. Similar to others, the post of generosity to friends and others displays the unselfish nature of people when times are toughest. I have been supporting a nephew who lost his job, his wife and his truck in the past 2 months, and mostly not his fault. Spirits were low but the support was strong and thing will be okay. Sadly, it is only when the calendar nears the end of the year when some people think these deeds matter, when truely it is the entire year of generosity that more poeple should present. God Bless to everyone and safe holidays. To each their own whether Merry Christmas, Happy Hannuekah or any other background, we all live in this world together and together we might find peace and goodwill in everyone.
