If a contractor working in conjunction with a materials supplier, installing cabinets in a kitchen, covers electrical junction boxes does the HO have to go after the contractor or does Home Depot bear the burden?

why would an electrician have put junction boxes where cabinets are going?

did you have a contract??

They are seeking licenced contractors to work in the stores at least by me. Open listings for plumbers and electricians licenced.

Thats exactly what the person said, "I'm Licensed, Oh and by the way, I can pull your order for you at no charge ahead of time". I don't think thats the end of the story, let them have at it...

I'd say your issue is with whomever you contracted. If it's the store, that's where you aim your guns, and let them chase the bad guys.

I believe that Home Depot subs out the cabinet installation. But they are the one's that choose & pay the installers. In my book that means these guys are working for Home Depot and that would make Home Depot responsible. I would go after whoever got the check for the cabinet install.

I too say HD is responsible. they're providing the contact info for the contractors and it is them who is ultimatly responsible for the end product.

If HD blows you off, you should have the contact info for the cabinet installers and I would go after them...

HD should be respopnsible, but I would think they have some sort clause in their contracts with the individual subs that they are reponsible for the work. Box stores can be notorious for their sell it and let it go ways. HD should take care of their customers, IMO, but I would not blame them for not wanting the heat for subs that don't do their work properly.

It was just the most reasonale way to deal with existing boxes. A cover plate in the back of a cabinet isn't necessarily the worst case.

If I drove a nail through a roof should I ask why some stoopid roofer put shingles up there?

The other isssue is the sub wont respond.

This is wher HD should step in and let the sub know if he does not respond than they will pull his name from installion jobs. I have a friend who installs windows and doors for Lowe's and he asked me to hang a new ceiling fan for a customer because his helper accidently broke the blades when moving one of the doors. He had the fan for me that week and went out of his way to keep the customer happy to keep his standing in good order.

Artical in my local paper last week. HD said they were the GC. Which they are. Customer buys the product form HD and they supply the subs to do the work. Every one needs to be licensed and insured. Problem is, not everyone at HD knows how it works.

My guess is that the home-horror stores require their subs to carry liability insurance with a "hold harmless" clause in it, relieving them of any responsibility in such matters.

read the fine print, it's in there!!
