Our big blue does genny installs, this is the same blue that says SE is not allowed for drops. "If it's not in pipe, you won't get utility." They also don't carry weatherheads for SE. They have something to fear??????? I'll stop there,...

In 25 plus years doing construction and service work, I dont think I have ever seen an installation using SE cable in South Florida.

The part i am refering to is the master EC .He can hire anyone he wants without them having any test. This lets him find cheap labor.Other trades are the same.I passed my EC in collier county back in 97.Test was long but not really hard,2nd try and i passed. Are they requiring you over there to hire any journeymen to greenie ratio ? Here it could easily be a kid right out of high school. And we see many illegals working and nothing happens.

You are right. If you are State Certified as an EC, you are not required to hire licensed people if you supervise them.
If you hold a Masters License from a County as an ER, you have to follow your Countys rules.
I think the change came about 10 years ago thanks to the Latin Builders Association, with help from the Independant Electrical Contractors, and Associated Builders and Contractors.
It really put a hurt on training, wages and licensing in Florida. It dropped wages %30 the first year it came out.
It still makes it hard for guys to make over $25 per hour. Living in South Florida takes as much income as it does to live in the North East. I dont know how people do it.

I am aware of an installation by Home Depot where they renovated the entire house...pulled no permits. The contractor who Home Depot hired told the licensing board that Home Depot was exempt from permits.

Absolutely Hilarious!!!

Ever, anywhere:-? That's obviously a local thing. Around here, you don't see alot of pipe/masts.

We did a lot of home generator installs for Depot until they decided we needed to do them for 1/2 price. As a sub for Depot you were responsible for licensing and permitting. All they did was sell it, if the job got screwed up, they would just threaten not to pay you until it was fixed.

I may actually be with you on the risk issue. What are you thinking about that would make properly installed SE cable risky for use as a service riser?

In my neck of the woods, a person does not require any licensing to become a GC. Just $500 for the yearly sticker and whatever the minimum insurances necessary.

I once knew a painter who built a closet. He thought it was so easy, he hung a shingle as an EC...His first job, the roof on the house collapsed.
My neck of the woods is full of these guys.Built a bird house or two and now they are contractors.:)

Broken tree limbs, drunk drivers, fly by cows from the movie Twister???

I do installs for HD. I am an EC and have a masters license. I had to go through an extensive background check for HD. HD requires me to get permits on any jobs that need them. They have nothing to do with how much I charge.
We go to the jobsite and quote the customer the price. We dont always get the job.
