a laborer showed my years ago that you can cut PVC,or ABS with a piece of masons twine ( the yellow string brick setters use ) you just get about 5' of it put it under the pipe and pull it back and forth with very little tension on it. It cuts a nice clean straight line.

Jet line too, if done carefully you can split the conduit so you can remove a small section of conduit with conductors installed - FYI if using jet line in PVC it can splice into 90's and other bends if not fed correctly - use larger lubed rope instead.

Because I don't do many "remodel lights" I don't want to spend the money on one of those plastic bowl dust catcher/hole saw kits, so I just take the plastic bag the recess can comes in and poke a small hole in the end, then I put the arbor shaft of the hole saw through it, put it on the drill, then tape the large end of the bag to the celling to catch all the dust. Drill the hole fold up the bag and dump it out in the trash can. It works surprisingly well, and it is one less thing to take up space on the truck.

We use the clear plastic protectors sold for placing under potted plants. They're stiff enough to stay against the ceiling without marring it, easy to see through, come in several diameters, dirt-cheap, and handy to store with the hole-saws stacked inside them.

When using them, it's easy to simply tilt the drill and hole-saw combination into a trash can to dump the dust, and if the drywall slug doesn't drop out, a couple of bumps on the trigger of the drill in alternating directions will jar it loose enough to fall out.

I do the same thing, but I just let Mother Nature buy them for me. I have a city park right up the street from me. Kids are always leaving some sort of ball there, so I just wait until one blows into my yard.

Turn the half-ball 'inside out', start the pilot bit, then turn the half-ball right side out again.

I also have and make telephone hand sets for ringing out cables that you can talk on to verify the correct cable.

Efficeint thing to make out of disgarded rotary phones. Very useful.

All you really need is two standard carbon-mic handsets and a battery. Just wire everything in series.

One butt set and a toner wand connected to the posts on the back can intercept pots line conversation by holding the toner wand next to the wires. Sneaky and also against the law.

My 'wand' has no terminals, only the transmitter has wires and clips.

Added: How would one join it to a butt set?
