how do get 12 #12 on 6 20 amp circuit and its fine. the derating factor? pipe fill.....

Well what you've outlined is 12 CCC'S which would have an ampacity of 15 amps after derating.

Alternatives include using MWBCs, up-sizing to #10 and possibly larger conduit, or using two conduits.

There must be a couple multiwire options for their situation. Gfi and afci doesn't necessarily mean no multiwires anyway.

I see the "as many as will fit" philosophy quite a bit. I assume it's a mix of not knowing and not caring about derating. Got a job currently with a 1" EMT to a 4/11 with two extension rings.....
