homemade manual transfer switch

The OP says " I'm thinking about doing a manual transfer switch". What he is proposing is not a transfer switch in any form. It is nothing more than a receptacle connected to the electrical system. No different than the practice of back feeding the dryer receptacle trick. As all have said, not compliant or safe. He does not seem to understand what a transfer switch does.

Your installation MUST be made so it is physically impossible to accidentally interconnect the two sources.

You may NEVER, EVER rely on "I'll remember, and nobody else will use the equipment."

I agree with the others, use a listed transfer device and be done with it. With that said I am closing this thread.
