HomeWorks Installation

During a roughing I noticed the "low voltage" installer had installed the "homeworks" cable outside the box. The splice when complete will be outside of the box.

What got my attention is that the conductors attached to the switch will be run out of the box from the front opening of the box??? This I have not seen before.
Has anyone installed it this way? I am contacting Lutron to see if this is in their installation procedure. Let me know how you do this type of installation.
Thanks!!

The only homeworks switches that I have done were the style that did not use low voltage cable. Standard wiring and you just install the switches as you would any other. I have talked to a security system installer and he did mention doing exactly what you seem to be saying. I guess that is the proceedure but I am not sure.

I followed the Lutron link, I thought it was kind of funny that they close the document with this.

Understand Though...

The NEC is a document subject to interpretation. Your local city, county, municipality or state authorities have the final authority to approve or disapprove any installation. They must always be consulted for verification of the code, and the manner in which it will be applied ,in your area, prior to installation.

For a company as big as Lutron I am amazed that this is the best they could do. It looks shoddy at best. IMO, those class 2 conductors are in the box. I could see why they have a slight disclaimer on the installation.

And if we say they are the NEC violation would be what?

Class 2 can be in the same enclosure as power and light if they are Associated Systems and you follow the rules.

The electric light, power, Class 1, non?power-limited fire alarm, and medium power network-powered broadband communications circuit conductors are routed to maintain a minimum of 6 mm (0.25 in.) separation from the conductors and cables of Class 2 and Class 3 circuits.
