I didn't want to hijack the other thread over in Power Quality so I'll ask here. My friend is building a barn for a couple of his horses. He hasn't asked yet but I know it's coming regarding powering the thing up. Are there any special requirements beyond those used for a separate structure?

It depends on whether the AHJ considers horses "livestock." It would be good to wire according to Article 547, as dust does tend to accumulate in horse barns.

Bear in mind horses in stalls tend to start chewing on things, so keeping the wiring methods exposed to the horses themselves to a minimum is a good idea. Over 8' should suffice. Horses get electrocuted by carelessly installed romex on occasion.

An easy way to minimize the dust accumlation in panels is to simply install them outside in a 3R panel. I've seen panels installed in the hay storage area that are over a quarter inch thick in a short time, inside.

547.10 requires an equipotential bonding grid under stock tanks on concrete, due to the heater that could energize it in cold climates.

Got to go party, now. :D

Don't forget that livestock urine tends to corrode conductors. I think it's the ammonia. Anyway, I've seen a couple of barns completely wired in UF for this reason.

lots of other critters in a barn, not all of them invited, but all of them chew on conductors. I don't think rats are considdered livestock, but they do pee on eveything. I had a job where racoons were living in an attic the urine and feces dissolved the conduit around the conductors.

According to the American Heritage dictionary, 2001.
Livestock=domestic animals, such as cattle or horses, raised for home use or for profit

IMO, this barn fall under Article 547.

I wired a three stall lean to this summer and I used UF with dust-proof fittings. To receptacles located below 8' from the ground I used conduit. This structure has a dirt floor. I did not have to be concerned about any concrete.
