Must I per code provide an additional receptacle (beyond that which is required by 517.18) at a hospital bed if the bed is motor operated?

If it's germain, I will tell you that I am dealing with a psych unit. I know that 517.33 in listing critical receptacles required, talks about 1 receptacle per room for beds. But that section also precludes a need for critical receptacles at the bed, when the bed is in a psych hospital.

I know it might be a best practice to give these their own circuit, but is it a requirement?

Thanks,

Mike

In general, I think you need to check with the AHJ. Most allow the motorized bed receptacle to be counted as one of the required outlets, but some might not.
