Do you need hospital grade receptacles for an exam room?
No, only at patient bed locations (see 517.18(B) & 517.19(B)) and Anesthesia areas under 517.61(C)(2)

I agree on the receptacles, but what do you mean by "hospital grade wiring"?

That probably is required.

BTW, every exam table I have ever seen has a warning on it that says something like "connect only to a properly grounded hospital grade receptacle."

It seems like the warning is almost always ignored.

In other words in the business office, lounge etc you could use the regular mc cable but in patient care spaces the sheath needs to qualify as a ground path. This came up on a job where they had an existing commercial space that was to become a clinic with a few dental chairs. They wanted to put hospital grade receptacles on the existing wiring, which I didn't think we could do.

I do have the hospital grade wiring but the receptacles I was unsure of in the exam rooms. It's going to be a place for botox, which I have no idea what is involved but am assuming they will be using anesthesia so hospital grade receptacles it is.
