i guess where 680 gets a tad convoluted is that 680.42 only says 680.26(B)(2) is not needed if all the exceptions can be met. so in OP's ask, any metal item within that 5ft that is NOT surface will need to be bonded. i suspect all metal parts in a UL listed spa are tied to EGC, so i guess one would assume the bonding per 680.42 should tie back to the BC's EGC ??
question becomes, bonded to what exactly? if the spa itself is not connected to the same bonding then whats the point? fig 680-41 shows water bonding, which is not aplicable to a stand alone UL listed spa.
also, some of the pics around 680.42 (fig 680-52) dont really match with Part-III title. a storage item is both storable and portable, but many portable items are not storable. example, my LA Spas UL self contained manufactured 7x7 hot tub is portable, i can move it, but i cannot fold it up for the winter and place in my shed, etc.
my spa is portable, but, not typically drained after every use, it does however get drained/refilled on a regular schedule. so what 680.2 definition do i apply?
