I was in the store the other day checking out hot tubs. I noticed that the box on one specific hot tub had the terminals about 1 inch from the knockout. How are you suppose to terminate the wires? In this situation, do you loop the wires around like mouse ears? I can't imagine you would clip the wires shorter then 6 inches. I say pull the terminating block out and use wire nuts!

300.14 requires at least 6 inches of free conductor at each "outlet, junction or switch point... for splices or the termination of luminaires or devices". I do believe what you are describing is a termination enclosure, similiar to a cord connector. Do you leave 6 inches of free conductor at your cord connectors? How about in the termination box on a motor? It may be a PITA to terminate 1-1/2 inch wires, but it goes with the territory.

how about a circulator?

I've wired a few hottubs like the one your talking about, the real bitc* is that the ko is not a true 1" ko so you also have to try and get a slug buster in the cabinet... what a JOKE....

It makes you wonder what the "UL" people are doing when they approve some of these J boxs . If it's UL listed. I had a hot tub that had 4 #6 in a single gang bell box, that was alot of fun.

I did one like this in the summer. Had to do the mouse ears. Do you remember who manufactured the hot tub?
