I was looking at hot tub disconnect the other day and was looking at the type that had a 60 amp gfi and room for a couple other breakers. Basically a load center with a 60 amp GFI. Another electrician told me that inspectors are wanting a insulated ground ran all the way to the main panel if you use this style of box. I said you need to use insulated ground in conduit from hot tub to disconnect and disconnect to inside house. (outside install) but you could use cable with covered sheath to panel .(680-42C) I cant find reference where it has to be insulated all the way from hot tub to main panel because of using this style of box. Does anyone else know?

I usually run 6/3 w/g Nm to the disconnect then thhn to the spa. I can't see any reason that the ground would have to be insulated, same as any other sub panel right?

It does need insulated outside the building. art 680.25 (B)

I believe it needs to be insulated when ran outside but I dont see where it needs to be insulated all the way back to main panel inside house. The last one i did the hot tub said ground had to be same size as hots which 6/3 ground is not a #6????. I would think it would be same as a subpanel

Dennis is correct! Now, if your area calls for something different, then so be it. Note: In some cases conduit may have to be ran (outdoors) all the way to the hot tub disconnect from a power source.
