Is there a minimum distance that one should place the service disconnect or GfI breaker from a hot tub?

In looking at the code I cant find a minimum distance.

Bob, if this is a commercial property,then the emergency shut off needs to be a minimum 5' and a max of 50' or within site of. If its residential, it needs to be within site of.

680.12 Maintenance Disconnecting Means
 
I started with 680.1

'Within site of', is the best I have so far.

So right next to the tub is ok? Say within 1 foot?

Every hot tub I've wired required the disconnect 5' away from the inside wall of the hot tub...


Here is the code....

680.12 requires the disconnect, and 680.22(C) requires the 5' from the inside wall of the hot tub...

Min.is 5 feet.Its for safety and at 5 feet nobody will do anything stupid like try to reset it without getting out of tub.Mine at my house is 5 1/2 feet and in site

Jim would that be 680.10 ?? or 680.22(C)?? or maybe both?
 
Has anyone ever seen a switch listed to be used within 5'?? ,680.22(c) makes it sound as if there are switches that can be used within 5'.

How about an air switch that is mounted on the tub.
 
I guess, but when I used the code correlation database at U.L. nothing was found ,..not even the air switch.

There is no way for electricity to get to the air switch so what could possibly be the issue. I can only imagine the air switch or some low volt setup that is built into the spas.
