I have some questions that I need to make sure on.

A hot tub company is going to install a hot tub in a screen room so the hot tub of course will be out in the elements.
About every 8 foot or so there is a column where the screen attach?s to which is concrete, The spa company wants me to attach my GFCI 50A disconnect on the outside of the column which is about 1 or two feet away from the spa location.
The spa company is going to cut the slap or drill a hole where the hot tub is going for a conduit for power.

First, Can the Disco be located outside of the screen on that column?
2nd ,Do I have to have a GFCI rec... right beside the disco?
3rd, is there any special grounding that needs to be done?
I read in 680.43 (A) that I have to install a receptacle within 10' not less than 6 ' of the tub. Its going to be a little difficult because this going to be have a sun-room with all glass and have a screen room.
Thank you guys for responses

The disconnect can be located closer than 5' as long as there is a permanent barrier between the disco & the tub. It also must be within sight & readily accessible. 680.12

I am still unsure whether this install is a screen porch or a sun room. If it is a screen porch it may be considered outside. It is an interesting question since the code only speaks of outside or indoors. The rules are different for them.

I guess technically the tub is in the screen room section which would make it outside. The disco would be behind the cement column which is a couple of feet away from the tub, but its outside from the tub meaning that if you were facing the disco the only way to get to the tub is by 1, cutting the screen or 2 walking around 25 feet to the door.
Do I have to have GFCI beside the disco?

you need one at least 6 feet away but no more than 10 feet from the inside wall of the spa. 680.43 (A)

yes dennis I was answering his question. The only one he asked in the post I quoted so I didn't think it should be confusing to anyone. And it probably wasn't confusing to anyone exept maybe..........:)

My apologies, I thought he was asking about the disco not the GFCI Recep. I saw GFCI inside the disco rather than beside the disco. I was thinking he meant the GFCI for the tub. Mea cuppa

Steel , Dennis was right! I know about that rule I even posted it in my thread. 680.43(A). I'm concerned about if I need a GFCI near the disco.

What do you mean by a GFCI near the disco? This is where the confusion is. The GFCI for the tub can be at the main panel. Is that what you mean?

Start with what it is .Either its a screen room or its a sun room.Cant be both and things change. Read all of 680 and then tell us what you really have.
It's a screen room, I clarified it in post 6:wink:

you need the one I spoke of earlier when you said that dennis was right. Well I was right because you asked about a gfci in that post and I answered. And that answer applies to this post as well. You need one within 10 feet but at least 6 feet away from the inside wall of the spa.

There's no doubt about it, you are correct. I know about the GFCI REC. no closer than 6' no further than 10'. I stated that In my first post lol.

You shouldn't need one next to the disco. You were asking about a gfci next to the disco but it doesn't say that in the code. Just the one that we already established that everyone should know about by now for sure.
