If its not on plans he has a problem that needs fixed right now.

He may get away with it if its still 2 buildings but why not just drop the garage service ?

Yeah, We've got to talk.
Some of these people have heard they can deduct the light bill on their bussiness account if their office is above the garage and it's on it's own meter.

We might have to upgrade the house service to 400 amps I like that! $$$$. Thats my bread and butter their.

Or find away that they are almost attached but not.Like 1 roof over hangs other but not touch. Here he will get a customer charge but bill woul be lower after so many kw.Fix it before you go any further

You could always put in a lighting contactor and have the control voltage at 24 volts.Article 225.30(D) would allow this.

(D) Different Characteristics. Additional feeders or branch circuits shall be permitted for different voltages, frequencies, or phases or for different uses, such as control of outside lighting from multiple locations.

There are also people who just want to know how much something uses. My Dad put a separate meter in the ATTIC of our old house so he could keep track of how much electricity the electric furnace was using. I've considered putting a meter on the feeder going into the house to know how much I use on account of the real meter goes both ways these days.

Don't knock them -- just nod and say "Thank-you!" when they hand you the check. I just spent $8,500 on a new air conditioner. I told the guy to shut up and just take my money -- I knew what I wanted and that was that. I suspect he's paid on commission (unlike you guys who own your businesses) -- he got what he wanted (fat check) and I got an A/C system that does all sorts of neat tricks and uses 30% less electricity.

You could also just use a 3-way switch...
