House Rewire

I have a customer that I'm pricing a full rewire of a 50 year old house. In other rewires, I've been able to get inside the walls and easily tear out all the old wiring, this is not the case here. If I cut and tape the old wires, can I abandon them inside the walls?

Yes there is no requirement for removal of abandoned conductors under the scenario

For my AHJ, old stapled romex in dwelling walls (inaccessible locations and wire is not loose) can be abandoned in place.

Installation of NM-B for finished buildings (a dwelling in this case), NEC 2011, 334.30(B)(1), fish into wall and unsupported.

Why tape them???

For my AHJ, old stapled romex in dwelling walls (inaccessible locations and wire is not loose) can be abandoned in place.

The NEC does not require the removal of any NM, stapled, fished or easily accessible, if your area does they are either making rules up or have a local amendment.

Why tape them???

I never like finding loose wires with the conductors exposed... so I thought taping them would help avoid some future electrician from wondering if he's going to get hit or not.

Thanks for the responses. The AHJ wasn't telling me to do it, I just wanted to verify I could before I moved forward with my quote.
