how a traffic works

I looked in my dictionary, and of all the entries with 'traffic' in them, one thing stood out:

The passing of people or vehicles though an area. So maybe this is about how designers use 'traffic' to calculate flow in a structure? I know there is information about how many people per square foot you can have for emergency egress as well. Once you reach a certain density, movement stops.

Yea, it's like 0.3 or 0.2 inches per occupant IBC 1005

if you're talking about a traffic light, i think some of the REALLY OLD ones worked on a 555 timer, and i think most new ones work on a plc. (i've never installed one so you'll have to verify that) where i live, they have this pretty neat control center where they watch traffic and determine when to change the light. you can login and watch the cameras yourself, and even control their direction to see what your commute is looking like.
