I talked with a GC yesterday about a project we’re bidding. He said due to lumber price fluctuations he could only guarantee his price to the client for one week.

in light of copper prices how long are you guys guaranteeing your bid price for?

My price is good for as long as it takes to call me and say I have the job.

My prices right now are set to the last time wire was this high, and I never lower my prices. So I've been ahead for a while.

Even still, for my work the cost of wire only accounts for about 6% of the total price I charge. So if it goes up by 50% that's only 3% of the total price.

$5,000 kitchen wiring will only cost me an additional $150 or so after wire prices go up.
