How many of you use a cordless drill, as your MAIN drill motor, and how many use a corded drill ? The focus here is your MAIN drill motor

My cordless stuff is getting tired, particularly my hammer drill and batteries. I have bought several batteries and Im starting to think its a money pit. Ive either got to keep buying more, or go back to corded for my main drill. or perhaps change brands, I use dewalt 18v.

Depends on the task. There's no way I'm using a cordless to drill out the studs to rough in a dwelling. OTOH, I'm not draggin a cord out to trim it.

We always use a corded for drilling studs. But just about anything other than that we use cordless. 18v Dewalt. I have a few xrp batts that have been worked HARD that I bought with a kit in early 2005, they are just starting to show their age. I got 3 new xrp batts for something around $150 plus shipping. I think they did their job quite well. My helper uses 18v dewalt too.. so no matter where we are we always have batts and chargers readily avalible. I now use the NANO batts, I still dont have my mind made up about them. I dont use them in the flashlights where having light suddenly go out would put me in danger - the nano batts turn off before the battery is completly run down. They definately are stronger and lighter! I just use the older XRP batts for my flashlights.

You really have treat the battery to correct charging procedures, subjecting them to the cold nights does alot to there life span.
If you have several series of 18 Volt batteries, not all chargers are universal to all batteries, theres a chart out on Dewalts site.
Deep rapid discharging and heating up the battery is not good for battery life as well.

If I know it's going to be a long day yeah, I'll go with Cord stuff.

I'm a dewalt man, Saw-all, two different battery lights, 2 hammer drills all 18v.
Corded - Right angle drill, right angle grinder, boom box.

We drill 3/4" holes for 95% of the time... so we bought a milwaukee angle drill. Its OK, but thats about it.

I have always been a milwaulkee man I have burned 2 - 14.4 volt yet still work well enough to turn smaller bits 3/4 or smaller. I have been looking at the new LI series and as tempting as it is to buy now I was particularly impressed with thier new 18 li sawzall small and compact and all bats are interchangeable. Kind of looks like a hole hawg sawzall. They are pricey though and am waiting for a xmas promo or something like I got on my big dewalt purchases. 3 days before xmas 20% off on 12" slide mitre So 500$ became 400$ plus tax. Best slide for the money and they are about 600 now I think. On a rough I have hole hawgs super hawgs and right angle . If it is a BIG job suprhawg MED right angle hole hawg collects dust in the shed. Small say 500 sq ft cordless. All bats and chargers go on charge before anything else 7:01 am chargers and bats pluged in. Good basic skills make you very efficient and money making bad basic skills are a flounder.

Milwaukee Cordless

Milwaukee Cordless

The drills I use all the time are my cordless Milwaukee Hammer Drill and my Milwaukee Compact. Both are 18v Li-Ion. Compact only accepts the compact batteries and not the regular ones. I use the compact 80% of the time, for all my screwing and small drilling. When I need to hammer drill or drill studs I use the other.

Corded drills on rough-in, with some cordless use. Most other jobs are strictly cordless because it is either remote locations or power is turned off for transfer switch upgrades.

I use my cordless about 90% of the time. I have a Makita 18v LI and have been pretty happy with it. I had a battery fail after about 2 years (3 year warranty) and they replaced it no questions asked. They hooked the battery up to thier computer and told me how many times it had been cycled and how many deep discharges had occured. The thing I like best is the built in light by the trigger. No more holding a flashlight in my mouth while tring to start a screw.

I bought my V28 Milwaukee right angle and got my V28 Hammer Drill without a battery or charger for free. The promotion is over.

The Right Angle was 425 at Grainger. 1.5 hours after I bought it I was punching holes for a job that called me while i was at Grainger. It took an hour to fully charge the battery. Now the batteries have a 5 year 2000 charge warranty.

Mostly cordless

Mostly cordless

Mostly cordless here...

Milwaukee V28 Cordless: Hammerdrill / drill, Sawzall, Circular Saw, Light (lasts an entire 8 hour shift on 1 battery), Impact (better than a corded version), and Band Saw

Corded: Bosch Bulldog, and Bosch Rotohammer for heavy duty hammerdrilling / chipping.
Milwaukee superhawg for house / basement rough ins.
Milwaukee holeshooter for misc long term drilling.
