Maybe I am being lasy an have not looked into the NEC enough but using the caculations from Art. 220-3b 9 in the 99 code I come up with ten receptacles on a 20 amp circuit.

Here is the formula I used
ExI=W
120x20=2400 2400x80%=1920 1920/180VA=10.6

Maybe I have complicated the whole issue but how many receptacles can you put on a 20 amp circuit according to the NEC?

If it is a dwelling unit, there is no limit to the number of convenience receptacles. :D

Even if you are talking about a non dwelling installation, why would you want to only use 80% of a receptacle circuit?

300-400 would be my guess...

Just kidding...

If you go by Art. 220, and say 180VA per receptacle, the safe way is no more than 10, but if you don't think this is a non-dwelling, as many as you want. To be safe, no more than 10.
