I think most of us understand that it's ok to put a receptacle above a dropped ceiling, you just can't plug anything into it. Here's how they do it in Opposite Land:

This is actually in a pretty well known establishment in NYC. The cords go to some stage lighting.

Thats one code I would love to see changed. Cords should be allowed above a "DROP" ceiling. (cord and plug of course) IMHO.
