One inportant item I see , he stated either wire can be connected ; proper polarity must be observed , hot on center socket contact, nuetral on socket housing . most fixtures come with an identifying conductors. I like to take an ohm meter to check.

That was the major reason I started this thread. The other things like testing after you've unspliced the conductors is one thing but reversing the conductors on the lamp socket could cause a serious injury or worse.
