Anyone know the process or who to call to gain UL certification on pre-fab assemblies?

UL website lists a form to fill out for someone to call back. I filled that out. Curious if anyone else here has been through it.

Thanks

Could you have him PM me. We are considering becoming a UL listed panel shop and I would like to find out what steps to take and how difficult this might be.

Just watch this thread. He will see your post.

It is a workday so it may later, or tomorrow or so, till he checks in but he is a good guy and will respond.

Edit: You can subscribe to this thread and that way you do not have to search for it later.

When you talk about "pre-fab" assemblies what are you specifically referring to? UL does certify shops to custom build industrial control panels under UL 508A. This process is an ongoing process where UL has follow up services that will periodically do inspections on random industrial control panels at the fab shop.

You can go HERE and fill out the information. This form is a request for a quote for certification. After you fill out the form and send it in a UL Representative will contact you with more information regarding your specific requirements.

You need a lot of $$$ and then more $$$.. I don't believe you need a UL listing for putting together electrical prefab wiring assemblies unless you are manufacturing. If you are using all listed material it is no different than putting it together on the job.

UL Certification is not as expensive as a lot of people believe. A lot depends on the product being evaluated.

What I’m referring to specifically and pre-fab assemblies for devices.

We started pre-fabbing our jobs several months ago with devices already in the box under protective metallic covers to where all that’s needed at trim-out is to install a wallplate.

I’ve had some issues with inspectors wanting us to take them apart to inspect bonding specifically. Some of the services I’ve seen online offer “UL listed assemblies” that come with a UL certified tag on them.

I’m about to try out the Eaton Rapid Ring setup. Those plaster rings also have a cover that prevents you from looking into the box also. So I was looking for info on what it would take to have them listed to where we don’t have to disassemble things in the field to be inspected.
