With the onset of this new technology what will change on our part.It is certainly going to be prevalent before 2011 comes around.
I just can`t imagine a K & T home faster than broadband or DSL

Re: How will a BPL system affect the NEC

The articles I have been reading indicate the typical wiring systems in homes would not need to be changed at all. Everything needed to operate a BPL system takes place at the utility and by end-user connection after the outlet.

It appears most systems will operate via a wireless system to an interface box at a local power line or directly through the incomming service with some fancy device that jumps the utility transformer.

I don't understand how it works and I don't have a strong enough background in communications or electronics, but it does appear to be a working system at this time.

Re: How will a BPL system affect the NEC

From what I know the signal rides on the backside of a sine wave.So does 50 HZ. or 60 HZ. change it.
It is supposed to work no matter how old the system is.K & T is open aired ,BX,MC,NM, some older installs have beeen rigged (swapped hot and neutral)Not that I have ever done that ;)

Re: How will a BPL system affect the NEC

If you open the link I posted, it explains how this works. They are using the electric line as an antenna, and sending a RF signal.

I don't think I like the concept but it is already here. I know it is offered in Cincinnati but not here yet. It may cause all kinds of problems if there are any wiring problems in a home.
