IMO the issue is whether or not the customer can ever find out that the unit only costs $1000 when you charged him so much more. If so, he will definitely feel ripped off :eek:hmy: and probably won't be your customer anymore.

If you had to replace the same exact part for that customer or another customer Monday morning or next week or next month what would your price be? That is what I would charge. I might try to smooth over things at the supply house a bit. I deal with them almost daily.

now if your customer googles sprinkler controller price, and this post comes up third on google,
as it did when i googled it, how would you feel if you were in the customer's place?

how would you feel in YOUR place, if you had to explain this post to the customer?

Tough call. Ultimately, it's up to my boss and office guy to make the final determination on price. I'm still on the fence personally....

I had to google it though after you mentioned it just for *hits and giggles, and didn't see it on the first page.

To clear up some of the others posters questions, this is a $2200 controller I picked up for $1000. The supply house said it'll be full price next time I order it, this was a one time deal(screwup!).

What would happen if you did sell the controller to this customer for a $1000 plus mark-up and another customer gets charged full price because there are no more deals? These guys are neighbors and talk to each other. The guy that pays regular price will feel ripped off.

From what I have experienced you may have good luck today and find a deal but tomorrow is a whole different story. If you make a little extra one place you won't have to cry so much when you lose it some place else. Good luck doesn't follow most of us around like a shadow.

Also, don't count your money (profit) until the warranty period ends.

yeah, googles funny that way.... i remember once, when someone was on
the forum wondering what to do with an employee, regarding termination, etc.

and i googled his contractor name, and what came up first hit was his thread
with his question in open discussion here.... i screenshotted the results,
and posted them in the thread, suggesting a private conversation
might be preferable.

geez, that'd be all you need... terminate an employee, and get a wrongful
termination lawsuit based on an attorney's googling of your business name.
labor law is pretty stringent on disclosing employee information anywhere.

one of the things i think we tend to forget over in our little corner of
the 'net is that the amount of posts here guarantee almost instant
updating of search results on google to reflect our posts.
it's usually just minutes.

Speaking of instant updating......unlike the powers that "the powers that be" have here..........

once you submit your post...it's set in stone......

No fixing of, rethinking of..........well set in stone......

Be vewy vewy careful.......
